Casa Alpha
About the project
Casa Alpha
A single-family house with 704.76 m² of built area in Mérida, Yucatán (2021). It is a concrete refuge that floats above the site's vegetation, with contrasts between solids and voids and the social areas oriented toward the views of the lot.
It was born as a project that, from its conception, sought to be an open and welcoming home, an exercise in contrasts between solids and voids, heavy and light volumes, where the social areas enjoy the best views of the lot, fostering the relationship between the outdoor vegetation and the family that would inhabit the space, while maintaining the sense of introspection they were looking for in a home.

The challenge
The client wanted a home that conveyed a sense of protection and privacy without becoming a closed or isolated space. Based on this premise, the project sets up a controlled relationship with the outside, using openings, patios and architectural filters that maintain the entry of light, ventilation and the visual connection with the surroundings while shielding the life inside the home.
The design decision
Through the handling of sloped embankments and vegetation, the ground floor could stay widely open toward both the street and the patio without compromising the privacy of the interior spaces. These elements work as natural filters that limit direct views from outside, preserving a sense of openness, light and connection with the surroundings without leaving the house exposed to the street.
Materials
Board-formed concrete, tzalam deck on a metal frame, Travertino Puebla marble, stone.
