Casa Relo
About the project
Casa Relo
A single-family house with 505 m² of built area in Mérida, Yucatán (2020). Toward the outside it is discreet and reveals little; inside, it is organized around interior courtyards that bring the spaces to life and are discovered as one moves through it.
Casa RELO is a reflection on the meaning of intimacy, a dialogue between privacy and curiosity. An introspective home that reveals little on the outside but lets its essence be discovered as you move through it. A solid yet transparent house, whose interior courtyards bring the spaces to life.
Casa RELO is contrast, it is surprise, it is a house that is discreet on the outside and very expressive on the inside, a house full of emotions, connected to nature.

The challenge
Making the most of the plot's orientation and achieving an efficient layout of the spaces, so that each area would have the right relationship with light, views, privacy and the outdoors, without losing functionality or spatial quality.
The design decision
Giving the house a very private façade toward the street and letting it reveal itself gradually through a sequence of interior patios. With this strategy, the social area opens completely onto the garden, while the private areas are concentrated on the upper floor to keep greater privacy and clearly separate the different uses of the house.
