Mido Pavilion

About the project

Pabellón Mido 1.0

A brand exhibition pavilion in Mérida, Yucatán (2018), set up at Expo Construcción Yucatán 2018. It is modular, demountable and reusable: a slab display module and two occupiable areas, designed to give the brand a presence within the exhibition.

The idea is to create a unique element in the expo, which could give the company an even larger presence and build up brand awareness with its disruptive nature.

The challenge

Creating a temporary structure that could be assembled and dismantled quickly to fit the exhibition's timeline, without compromising the stability, functionality or spatial quality of the project.

The design decision

Developing the project together with industrial designers, working in an integrated way on the structure, the anchoring systems and the solutions needed to make assembly and disassembly easy during the exhibition. At the same time, marble became the project's leading material, defining much of its visual expression and reinforcing the identity of the proposal.

Materials

Materiality

Natural marble, granite, quartz, large-format stone slabs, white cladding panels, a demountable modular structure and indirect lighting elements.

Material concept

Natural stone as the leading architectural and display element, an exploration of the aesthetics and plasticity of marble, stone materials shown in their real format, a modular design that allows the components to be assembled, dismantled and reused, and a balance between display function and brand identity.

Distinctive elements

An ephemeral architecture pavilion for Expo Construcción Yucatán 2018, an adaptable and reusable modular composition, stone slabs displayed on vertical stands, a route that creates different perspectives of the materials, indirect lighting that highlights the natural veining and textures, occupiable spaces open to the outside, and a sculptural massing designed to give the MIDO brand a presence.
