About the project
Miyabi Árbol
Interior design of a restaurant in Mérida, Yucatán (2019), the new location of an existing restaurant. The project seeks to reflect in the space the qualities the restaurant is known for: the quality and honesty of its food and its attention to guests.
A modest restaurant whose fame is owed to the high quality of its food; the sincerity of its dishes and its customer service allow patrons to enjoy a complete culinary experience. The new establishment gave us the opportunity to reflect these culinary qualities in architecture.

The challenge
The project sought to maximize the restaurant's capacity within relatively small premises. To achieve this, the work focused on an efficient layout of furniture and circulation, making room for more diners without compromising comfort, the operation of the service or the sense of spaciousness.
The design decision
As a strategy to increase the restaurant's capacity, half a level was excavated, which made it possible to develop the program on two levels and make better use of the available floor area. This solution was complemented by integrating the plaza's terrace as an extension of the restaurant, adding dining areas and strengthening the relationship between the interior and the outdoor space.
Materials
Finishes
Dark wood, black stone and natural stone, black steel, natural fibers, crimson woven elements, glass, gravel and matte finishes in dark tones.
Material palette
A warm, organic composition based on wood, stone, metal and natural fibers, complemented by vegetation, a dry garden and water. The crimson accents and the warm lighting give it identity and reinterpret references to Japanese aesthetics in a contemporary language.
